Child custody

In Maryland, there are two kinds of child custody — legal custody and physical custody. Legal custody gives a parent the right to participate in important, long-term decisions affecting the child. A parent with physical custody provides the child’s primary home and makes the day-to-day decisions about the child. The parents can share legal custody, physical custody or both. Our Rockville & Frederick divorce attorneys work hard to devise a custody arrangement that benefits you and your child.

Child support

Child support in Maryland is calculated based on a formula that includes the income of each parent, the average number of nights the child spends with each parent, childcare expenses, health insurance costs and other factors. Whether you are in the process of a divorce or legal separation, we help you determine the amount of child support that’s likely to be awarded in your case.

Alimony

The court can award alimony to either — or neither — spouse. Some of the many factors that the court considers when determining an award of alimony are the earning capacity of each spouse, the length of the marriage, the spouses’ ages, and whether they previously agreed on alimony in a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement. Our Frederick & Rockville family attorneys make sure the court has the information it needs to set alimony at a fair level in your case.

Family law

In addition to divorce, our lawyers handle a wide range of family law issues, including separation agreements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, division of marital assets, domestic violence, grandparents’ rights, and the enforcement and modification of support and custody orders.
